Cost Saving Solutions for Business and Industry

Picklex® 20
Picklex® 20 will solve the rusting problem completely. One step de-rusting or de-scaling of heavy rusted steel or heat treated steel (hot rolled steel or heat treated metal)

Picklex® 20  performs multiple jobs (8 chemicals' jobs) in one-step simple application.

a)     Metal surface cleaner: Cleans light mill oil, cutting fluid, dust

b)    Surface rust/flash rust remover (removes flash rust in less than 15 seconds by spraying/brushing and also removes heavy rust by dipping without etching the metal surface)

c)     Rust inhibitor: Provides conversion/protective coating for very long-term indoor rust prevention (in terms of years)

d)     Rust converter: Converts 100% rust and scale on the metal surface to a conductive conversion coating, ready for welding & finishing

e)     Sealer: It seals from moisture/humidity and stops further oxidation

f)      Pre-treatment chemical: Provides complete surface preparation/pre-treatment for subsequent operations, such as welding, priming, liquid painting, powder coating, e-coating etc. Provides excellent bonding and corrosion resistance (much longer paint life)

g)     De-Scaler: De-scales, coats & seals hot rolled steel with mill scale or heat treat scale in one-step.

h)    Welding/Anti-spatter compound: No weld spatter forms. Increases weld strength considerably. Spraying on the weld provides a very long term rust protection for the weld

i)    Galvanized steel, Aluminum preparation: The only product which prepares galvanized steel & aluminum surface by one-step spraying / brushing before painting (eliminates blasting)

       j)    Stainless Steel preparation: The only product which prepares stainless steel surface for clear coating (eliminates Nitric acid passivation or blasting)

Picklex® 20 is used by manual process at room temperature with no rinsing. It has a very high coverage, making it very cost effective. Saves labor, cost & time considerably.

 Picklex® 20 – Typical applications & Markets:

The areas/markets where Picklex® 20 can be used:

NOTE: Picklex® 20 can be used on any metal surface, ferrous and non-ferrous including stainless steel, galvanized steel, aluminum etc. (eliminates media blasting or acid etching on non-ferrous surface). Picklex® 20 will solve the rusting problem completely, which is the biggest concern in the industries using metal, because it affects the bonding with top coating and other quality requirements.

Auto Paint stores PBE / Parts supply stores (Automotive aftermarket) – For long term rust protection, removal of flash rust, auto restoration & re-painting jobs. Auto body paint shops/stores, auto parts supply stores

RETAIL: Hardware Stores, Paint supply stores, Farm stores

Summary of Picklex® Process :

Picklex® is environmentally safe, non-hazardous, water based and water soluble chemical used for preparing steel (including stainless steel), galvanized steel & aluminum (any ferrous and non-ferrous metal) before finishing, such as powder coating, liquid painting, e-coating, galvanizing, some specific electroplating (chrome plating) etc. Replaces phosphate process for steel and chromate conversion coating for aluminum before finishing.

Picklex® removes light surface rust (also weld & laser scale) and white rust from the metal surface while providing a
composite conversion coating in one application. Picklex® Process uses fewer steps, less time & labor and is very
cost effective compared to phosphate & chromate systems. It also eliminates the EPA & OSHA regulations. Conversion to the Picklex® Process usually does not involve any major equipment change.

Picklex® can also replace acid pickling through phosphating or application of rust inhibitor. Picklex® removes the
heat treat scale or mill scale from the metal surface, conditions the metal and provides a protective coating (conversion
coating), all in one dipping process.

Picklex® Process has the following advantages:

  • Environmentally safe, non-toxic, non-hazardous, non-flammable, and water-soluble product (does not fall under any EPA, OSHA or DOT regulation).
  • Eliminates acid, phosphate, chromate and also eliminates the blasting of cold rolled steel, stainless steel, aluminum and galvanized steel
  • Removes flash rust, weld/laser scale, white rust
  • No waste disposal (Picklex® bath is never disposed if kept clean by proper filtering)
  • No Waste treatment
  • No monitoring or concentration adjustment
  • No sludge
  • Picklex® is consumed completely
  • No heavy metal in the rinse water (Picklex® does not etch the surface, see test report on rinse water), so the rinse water does not become hazardous waste.
  • Does multiple jobs in one step. Picklex® completely removes red rust (for steel), weld/laser scale, white rust(for aluminum & galvanized steel), provides conversion coating & seals, all in one step (in 2 minutes treatment time). Also removes mill scale in dipping process (time varies)
  • Continuous process with no down time
  • Cold rolled steel (including de-scaled hot rolled steel), stainless steel, aluminum and galvanized steel can beprocessed at the same time in the same bath.
  • Provides rust/contamination free surface for top coating
  • Chances of adhesion failure with the top coating is almost zero

NOTEPicklex® Process is the only pre-treatment process in the market which removes all oxidations (red rust, white rust, weld/laser scale etc.) and seals in one step (eliminates acid and/or blasting) during pre-treatment

Typical Applications:

As a Replacement of Acid Pickling: Picklex® replaces the complete process of acid pickling through the application
of rust inhibitor or phosphate coating in one step. In one-step dipping process (any oil on the surface has to be
removed separately), Picklex® removes rust, mill scale, heat-treat scale, conditions/pickles and provides a conductive
conversion coating (protective coating). It prepares a rust/contamination free surface. Then air dry. Picklex® provides a
very long term indoor rust protection (in terms of years depending on the environmental condition of that area). Also, the coating allows welding (with no weld spatter) and finishing.

As a Replacement of chromate conversion coating: Picklex® completely replaces the chromate conversion coating process for preparing aluminum and galvanized steel for finishing. In one-step dipping or spraying process (any oil on the surface has to be removed separately), Picklex® removes white rust from the surface and provides a conversion coating (prepares a rust/contamination free surface). Then the part is rinsed with regular water (no chemical sealer) and oven dried before finishing. Picklex® provides Picklex® provides excellent bonding with the top coating. In manual brushing process, no rinsing is needed and the part is air-dried.

As a Replacement of phosphate coating:  Picklex® completely replaces the phosphate pre-treatment process for
preparing cold rolled steel (or sandblasted steel) for finishing. In one-step dipping or spraying process (any oil on the
surface has to be removed separately), Picklex® removes surface rust, weld scale, laser scale and provides a
conversion coating (prepares a rust/contamination free surface). Then the part is rinsed with regular water (no chemical
sealer) and oven dried before finishing. Picklex® provides excellent bonding with the top coating. In manual brushing process, no rinsing is needed and the part is air-dried.

Note: Picklex® works on cold rolled steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel and aluminum. Therefore, both cold
rolled steel, sandblasted steel and aluminum can be processed at the same time in same Picklex® bath. Since Picklex® does not etch while removing rust & scale, therefore no heavy metal goes into subsequent rinse water. Also, rust or scale removed by Picklex® does not contaminate Picklex® bath. Picklex® after complete drying provides a very long term rust protection when shipped under covered area or stored indoors (in terms of years depending on the
environmental condition of that location).

For typical applications, the Process will be as follows (by spraying or dipping process): Picklex® is used as is.

Note: Cold rolled steel, aluminum, galvanized steel & stainless steel can be processed in the same bath at same time.

1)   Non-bacterial De-greaser (needs filtering system)

2)    Picklex® treatment at 125ºF for 2 minutes (needs filtering system)

      3)  Rinse well with regular tap water 60 seconds (agitation or good circulation)

      4)  Rinse well with regular tap water 60 seconds (agitation or good circulation)

Oven dry at 300ºF for 20 minutes

           Liquid Paint, Powder coat

NoteNon-bacterial de-greaser is environmentally safe and non-hazardous, reacts with mill oil/cutting fluid to producecarbon dioxide and waterPicklex® at around 125ºF will continuously evaporate the water dragged from the de-greaser tank to keep the concentration of Picklex® within rangeNote: This particular de-greaser is very compatible with Picklex® and therefore no in between rinsing is needed. .

If the parts do not have any soil (fairly clean), then the Picklex® with de-greaser can be put in one step and the process will be as follows:

1)      Picklex® w/ Non-bacterial de-greaser at 125ºF for 90 seconds to 2 minutes (needs filtering system)

     2)  Rinse good with regular tap water for around 60 seconds (agitation or good circulation)

     3)  Rinse good with regular tap water 60 seconds (agitation or good circulation)

Oven dry at 300ºF for 20 minutes

           Liquid Paint, Powder coat

Note: Picklex® at 125ºF will remove flash rust, white rust, weld/laser scale completely while providing theconversion coating & seal. After oven drying, there will be a brownish color on the cold rolled steel which is a part of the coating. For aluminum, galvanized steel & stainless steel there will be no color change and therefore they can be clear coated.

Rinse water will be just regular tap water with no chemical sealer (Picklex® will seal the surface & stop further oxidation during rinsing up to top coating).

De-scaling hot rolled steel or heat treated metal: For de-scaling heat treated metal or hot rolled steel, dip inPicklex® at 130 - 140 deg F. The chemical should be kept clean by proper filtering system to remove the rust/scale particles completely. There will be no sludge, waste disposal or waste treatment from this process. Also there is no concentration adjustment needed.

Picklex® Process provides an excellent adhesion and high corrosion resistance (high salt spray hours)

After complete drying, the metal surface will not rust for months, even few years if stored indoors.

Picklex® has high coverage and along with the other savings from eliminating conventional steps, such as removing surface rust, weld/laser scales, waste disposals etc., this process is very cost effective and produces high quality resultsPicklex® is consumed completely and never gets disposed unless contaminated with other chemical or gets too much diluted with water. The initial fill up cost is usually pays back in several months and then the process provides cost effective, high quality results along with almost zero chance for quality rejection.

Compatible materials: High density plastic (or plastic lined/coated), PVC, Fiberglass, Stainless steel or any acid resistance material.
